Benedict, '62, and Dorothy Gorecki know what it takes to achieve success. They founded a thriving manufacturing company in Milaca, Minn. What was a stepping stone for this success? The University of North Dakota. Proud of his alma mater, Benedict says, "The two degrees I earned from UND in 1962 gave me the fundamentals to create Gorecki Manufacturing. Now it is my turn to help build UND so it remains a stepping stone to success in the years to come. Dorothy and I established gift annuities through the UND Foundation to ensure the quality of education at the University and to invest in our family's education. Subsequently, our nephew, Tim Winkelman, '83, and grandson, Johathan Statema, have attended UND and are part of the alumni family, as well!"
Ben and Dorothy have established three gift annuities within the UND Foundation. The charitable remainder of the annuities will support the UND School of Engineering and Mines and the UND College of Business and Public Administration.
Though they have retired from Gorecki Manufacturing Company, they continue to be involved. The company produces products such as overhead projectors, traffic signals and controls, digital wall displays, and commercial vacuums for 3M, Dow Chemical and other large companies. Founded in 1967, Gorecki Manufacturing Company has grown to 225 employees.
