Establishing a CRT benefits Ed, '56, and Eileen Bernhoft
more than they'd hoped!

Looming capital gains taxes of more than $73,000 on a retirement investment rental property precluded the Bernhoft's from selling and converting it to financial assets. By donating their property, valued at $535,000, and establishing a charitable remainder trust they were able to bypass capital gains taxes, receive a charitable income tax deduction and most importantly, fulfill their desire to support UND.

And they nearly tripled their annual income from this investment!

When their trust matures, the Edward T. & Eileen J. Bernhoft Endowment will be funded at an estimated $700,000 to benefit students and faculty in the College of Business and Public Administration, where Ed, A cavalier, N.D. native, credits faculty and UND experiences for his success in the financial industry.

Find out if a CRT is right for you.
